Day Tour to Suzhou and Tongli Water Town from Shanghai

In the early morning,the guide will meet you at your hotel in Shanghai and transfer to the Humble Administrator Garden in Suzhou.Humble Administrator Garden is the largest ancient garden in Suzhou and one of the top 4 ancient gardens in China. It is divided into eastern, middle and western sections. The buildings and artificial hills in Eastern section are taller than those inthe other two sections. Lanxue Hall and Furong Pavilion are the sightseeing highlights showing off the luxury lifestyle of the garden’s former owner.

Walking through a long corridor, you will enter the Middle section, the most exquisite and culturally significant part of the garden, 1/3 of which is covered by pools resembling a small water town. Yuanxiang Hall,the main building of the whole garden, provides the most beautiful view of the garden.

The western section is famous for its buildings, among which Yuanyang Hall is well-known. It’s the place where former owners listened to local opera.The outside scenery looks as covered by snow seeing through the blue glass windows of the hall.

After sightseeing of the garden, we will have a 30-minute rickshaw ride from the garden to Baita East Road, where we will drive through the small historical lanes and feel the local simple life as well.The rickshaw ride ends on Pingjiang Cultural Street, where you will find both the most historical and fashionable parts of Suzhou.

Enjoy a local lunch at a dumpling restaurant or in a Private Restaurant to try the authentic local dishes.

In the afternoon, we will drive from Suzhou to Tongli Water Town.Tongli water town is divided into 7 islands by 15 rivers. These are connected by 49 bridges. All the essence of the South Yangtze River region can be found in this town. We will visit Tuisi Garden first, it is much smaller than the gardens in the city of Suzhou, but The pools and pavilions in Tuisi Garden are even more charming than the the ones in the gardens of Suzhou; then we will take a sculling boat from Tuisi Garden to the Three Bridges Scenic Area. During the boat ride and your visit to the scenic area, you will be immersed in the rich history and culture of Tongli; afterwards, we will go to see Chongben Hall and the Folk Custom Museum focus on the daily lives of ancient Tongli people. Wood carvings, paintings and interior decorations are the crystallization of Tongli people’s wisdom and your day-trip will reach a perfect ending at the museum.

Finally, we will transfer from Tongli Water Town back to Sahnghai, tour ends at your hotel or to the airport or railway station where you will catch your flight or train.
