Summary

At the junction of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau stands one of Yunnans more famous spots, Tiger Leaping Gorge. The gorge is tucked neatly between the Yulong Snow Mountain and Haba Snow Mountain, which surround its two sides.The 17km-long gorge is divided into three segments with an aggregate fall of 210 meters. At the opening of the gorge, which is also the mouth of the Jinsha River, a Herculean pebble, about 30 meters wide, seems to be stranded amidst the billowing waves.You can witness an incredibly loud, churning, foaming river relentlessly pounding giant boulders in its path.

Day 1 Lijiang- Qiaotou - Tea Horse Guesthouse( L )

At 7:00AM,our guide will pick up from Lijiang hotel（own booking） , then take taxi to bus station to take the public bus to drive to Qiaotou Town, it takes 2 hours on the trip. Tiger Leaping Gorge hike tour is one of the most beautiful trekking tour of Yunnan Province. Your hiking trip starts from Qiaotou.

Tiger Leaping Gorge, a contender for the world's deepest river canyon. Around 15 km in length, the gorge is located where the river passes between 5,596m Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and 5,396m Haba Snow Mountain in a series of rapids under steep 2000 meter cliffs. Legend says that in order to escape from a hunter, a tiger jumped across the river at the narrowest point (still 25 meters wide), hence the name.

Start hiking at the Upper Tiger Leaping Gorge until reached the Naxi Family Guesthouse where you’d have lunch and take a short break there. (2h )

Keep hiking up through the 28-Bend, which is the hardest part of this trail. Take a rest when you reached the Tea Horse Guesthouse where you’d stay overnight. (3h)

Day 2 Tea Horse Guesthouse-Half Way Guesthouse-Tina's Guesthouse-Lijiang( B , L )

Sightseeing and Activities:Waterfalls and Streams, Middle Rapids, Middle Tiger Leaping Gorge

Hike through the flat trail, till reach the Halfway Guesthouse (about 2,500m/3 hrs).

Relax at the terrace, touching the clouds and closely looking up at the majestic Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (5,596m). (2hrs)

Keep hiking, you will see Guanyin Waterfall on the way. (1h)

Finally reach the Tina’s Guesthouse, where you can have lunch and enjoy the Middle Tiger Leaping Gorge. (1h). You will take the public bus at 3:30pm,then drive back to Lijiang.Our guide will end his/her service after arriving in Lijiang.

Trekking down to the bottom of Middle Tiger Leaping Gorge(RMB50/pax at on your own expense)

You could take a hour walking down the steep cliff to the bank of Jinsha River to the Middle Gorge (Middle Hutiao or Middle Rapids), worship the dangerours shoal of "Starriness", it is the most narrow part of the gorge, where a tiger can easily jump over the Jinsha River. Then climb up the gorge to Walnut Grove (Woody’s Guesthouse) using either the Tianti or Yixiantian route. Depending on how tired, choose the one to suit on the day. So from Middle Hutiao to Walnut Grove will take 2 or 3 hours and hence the total.
